The Belted Kingfisher is a skittish bird, and they are really hard to get close to. Luckily, I've found a place where about 4-5 of them hang out, so that increases my odds of getting a semi-decent shot, right? I'd love to camp out and hide and see how close I can get... but these will suffice for now!

Killdeer Chicks
Pretty damn cute. They were so slow and awkward when they were 1 day old, I was able to get some great shots. Now they are running around all over the place and I can't catch them with the camera as easily!

Buntings Are Back!
My favorite little blueish birds have returned! I hear and see them all over the place on my morning rides. By far, one of the flashiest little birds out there!

Morning Musings
I love my early morning bike rides. I am on the path by 6:10am now that it is light. Now, there are always days that I would LOVE to sleep in, (rainy days!) but most days I am so excited to get out there and see what's happening. I bike the same path every day, but it is never the same. So many cool migratory birds passing through right now. Deer are getting ready to have babies. Stuff is blooming. It's kind of my Zen moment before I jump into work mode. Just me, my thoughts, and Nature. Nothing better than that. I shot this eagle in the morning mist earlier this week, and it really turned out better than I thought. Kind of peaceful and still....

The Birds Are Back!
As a bird nerd, I am very excited that my feathered friends are returning. So many new songs out there, and there are a lot that I can't identify. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of hiking off the beaten path to investigate a bird chirping (Phoebe!) and ended up covered in ticks. Sooooo..... my adventures need to stay on the main drag for now..which sucks, because a lot of the elusive birds stay deep in the woods. BUT- I hate ticks, so I will just have to make due. Or purchase mass quantities of Deep Woods OFF!
